Many of our workflows enable members to connect works with corresponding authors. Ideally, works are connected with all collaborators, and this is not as difficult as it sounds.
- The publisher/repository collects co-author email addresses on submission.
- The publisher/repository emails the co-authors a specially crafted link that redirects them back to the publishing website via ORCID authentication.
- The publisher/repository uses the authenticated ID to populate their work metadata
- The publisher/repository uses the resultant permission to update the co-author’s ORCID record with the work metadata
Collecting authenticated ORCID iDs for all the authors ensures that they are recognized for their contribution, identified correctly within your own systems and within the works metadata.
Collecting via text boxes or search will inevitably result in misattribution, so should be avoided.
